Ruggiero Maria Rutigliano was born in 1971 in the city of Barletta, in southern Italy.

Ruggiero Rutigliano's artistic career shows his ability to work with images, words and blank canvases, tearing them in the most delicate way and reassembling them creating a new expression. His rigorous working methodology reflects Rutigliano's veneration for the craftsmanship of the old masters. During his childhood, Ruggiero Rutigliano grew up surrounded by pieces by artists such as Chirico, Picasso, Carra, Rosai, Sironi, Campigli, Nittis or Pisarro from the collection of Antonio Rutigliano -his father- sowing the seeds of his unique sensitivity that we can now admire in his work. Daily observation of the works of revered artists of modern and contemporary times taught him the importance of technique without restricting his sublime capacity for abstraction and conceptualization. At the age of 5 the began his first art studies with the prestigious Cinzia Dicorato, artist and restorer of masterpieces, who has directed important projects such as the restoration of the Chiesia dei Greci (Barletta, XIV-XVIII centuries), among others. Thanks to the pedagogy used by her in an environment full of multisensory stimuli, Rutigliano still remembers the aromas, colors, textures and works of the workshop where he become an “apprentice” to her teacher, as well as the savoir-faire of yore. Thus he developed an intellectual and emotional bond with the art world that has allowed him to continue creating and never desert his career as an artist. Despite his passage through different prestigious Italian art schools during his youth, it was Cinzia Dicorato who awakened the vocation of his life. Over the years, Ruggiero Rutigliano has explored multiple artistic expressions, learning without prejudice from both medieval * and classical masters and disruptive modern artists. He is currently studying the emotional impact on people of light on matter. Both in his series of picto-sculptures and in his latest series Spontaneous* Issues he experiments with different materials exceeding the canvas. The role of space, in and around the pieces, is a fundamental part of his work. Since the movement of the observer is crucial to understand his art from different perspectives, the viewer participates actively interacting with the piece.

All the artist’s projects are executed under his own developed exigent and complex method. Only this artisanal way of working allows him to truly express his respect and admiration for art, through pure materials and physical effort. Rutigliano’s works are carefully made, rigorous and clean, characterised by an responsable execution. From an “ordered disorder” to an “spontaneous” creation, the artist creates a dialogue between banality and essentiality transmitted by the juxtaposition of materials as well as the dissection of volumes.

Since he started his path on art Ruggiero Rutigliano has participated in several exhibitions in different cities in his natal Italy and abroad in international paining competitions, being recognised and celebrated by his engagement with the artistic career. Ruggiero Rutigliano’s works are permanently exhibited in galeries in Florida and Brussels.
